Ocarina of Time

Princess Zelda of Hyrule is the name giver of the whole series and each of its games. Mainly she is the wielder of the Triforce of Wisdom, the force of the goddess Nayru.

Next to Link and the antagonist Ganondorf she plays some kind of role in all the games, though in some she just does guest starring or is the heir of the Royal Family in other ways(like Tetra, a young pirate girl).

As the Seventh Sage she is not only their head but the connection between the Goddesses in the Sacred Realm and the "World of the Living".

In Ocarina of Time she has to flee as a child with her bodyguard and nurse Impa, who is known to be one of the few remaining Sheikah, a tribe that had sworn loyalty to the Royal Family. Impa teaches Zelda the ways of the Sheikah, making it possible for her to disguise herself as a man, in a way she is not even recognized by Link himself.

Mostly she stays quiet, pulling the strings in the back, while Link does the fighting. But in the end she can't get around helping Link in his face to face battle with the evil Ganondorf.
