Severus Snape

The truth lies solely in secret... only who can vanquish all infatuation, will get to see...

I will not tell you who and what he is/was. Knowing the name, the occupation, the attitude is one thing. Easily read. What matters though is the person behind the mask.

Severus is probably the most complicated character having wandered Hogwarts in the late 20th century - apart from Albus Dumbledore or... well... we all know who the third may be.. Born into a complicated marriage, torn between worlds and eager to find support - in the wrong things. Trying to indemnify his own mistakes that mostly fell back on himself, by living a double life in the end, always loyal to only one thing - the love that drove him to live on, for all of his life, until the very end dedicating to keep alive the only bit that is left of what was dear to him..

And that is the point where you storm off my page and read 7 books........

Costume Info

The planning phase cost me a long time. Several years, actually. But that goes for most of my cosplays. In autumn 2017 the moment had finally come. And like always, in last minute. Nevertheless I could finish(almost - the trousers need to wait due to anatomical reasons) everything in time for Vienna Comic Con.

The cloak, for example, consists of a sole remnant of 4 yards that I used up in whole, I had to create 32 fully functional buttons with button holes and the wand holds 4 separate LEDs and switches that converge at a single battery case. But more on that further below..

Yes, that's how it all started..

Wand

Base for the wand was actually a chopstick and a former big biro. I cut up the biro's top screw, soldered LEDs and switches to the adjusted battery case from a fake tea light and hotglued it all around the chopstick. The cables run through the biro's screw. I initially wanted the biro's shaft to be part of the hilt, but the battery case turned out to be too big for that. So I made the shaft entirely from cardboard, hotglue(also for the details that I simply melted in with the gun's tip - I'm sure there are better ways, but I was lacking time) and FimoAir Light and sculpted the wand itself the same.

The tip of the wand is made entirely from hotglue to have the LEDs shine through. I primed it all with acrylics and waterproof woodglue, then painted it with acrylics and a faint coat of nail polish for the tip. This way, when turned off, the tip is black. But when turned on, it lights up. All is carefully primed with scratch proof silky gloss acrylic varnish.

(I did cut out and replace the switches later with slightly bigger ones that are way more durable..)

Robe

There's not really much to be said about the robe other than that I altered the pattern I had made for Thranduil and spent a ton of time measuring and making the 32 button holes. They are all fully functional; so are the pockets(which I wish I had made a bit bigger, but they serve well regardless). The robe is fully lined, with the chest part in the lining being of a sturdier fabric to additionally support the binding bra I made.
This was also the second time ever that I made pockets - the first time without a zip but with a flap over it. Do I need to mention that I had no idea what I was doing?

Cloak

As mentioned above, apart from the rear neck element, this is made from one remnant. So I had almost exactly 4 yards of fabric to work with - no pattern, just reference - no idea and still managed. It has holes instead of sleeves, just like the original. I had to pucker(more likely pull it together with a string running through stitches) most of it. This way I would be able to keep it a massive bulging cloak, as the original is. The front has a broad seam on each side to give it a smooth flow.
Also I can't tell and show anyone often enough how marvellously it flutters when turning/spinning or walking fast!
