The Minish Cap

Vaati the Wind Mage - or rather, the lost soul.

Once a Minish, driven by the wish to be normal ein. Even for a Minish he was small from his birth on and this fact didn't change after his transformation. The rest of his looks, completely different from the other Minish.

The orphan is raised and later educated by the wise mage Ezlo; fights his way through a hard childhood and youth, hunted by the reasonless hatred and mocking of the others. The more he tries to understand their feelings, the more he drifts into the dark side. He becomes like them, grows the same disgust for his tribe he meets with.

One day his master Ezlo creates a cap which will make every wish of the carrier come true. A powerful weapon, a wise gift in wise hands, but even more fatal if falling into the hands of evil. A test for Vaati, whose skills of conjuring the wind are well advanced by then. But the latter, driven by his feelings, loses his mind. He seizes the cap, transforms his master and adoptive father into a speaking cap and devastates the village.

Some say it was megalomania, but it is quite possible that a demon got aware of his weakness and took possession of him. He transforms into some kind of Hylian, now projects his hate for the Minish onto the entire land of Hyrule and opens a treasure chest which was prison to unimaginable evil creatures. On his search for the "Lightforce" he meets with an obstacle: Princess Zelda. Not knowing that this power rests in her of all, he turns her to stone so she wouldn't get in his way. But he made his plan without Link who, with help of Ezlo, foils him.

At last they manage to ban Vaati, though not for long. Quite soon it becomes obvious that the King of the Gerudo; who is controlled by the demon Ganon himself; is Vaati's new master. Vaati breaks free and interposes himself between Link and Zelda and the peace in Hyrule.

Whether Link kills or destroys Vaati in some other way in the end, remains unclear...the unclear fate of a martyred soul, walked by the compulsion of being normal, fallen down into the fangs of Evil.

Photogallery: Vaati - Progress

Tiara

Deco ball, painted inside with 2 colours of nail polish. I set it like a real stone, without damaging it even slightly.

NO GLUE USED!!! I set the hemisphere like a stone!

And I only noticed afterwards that the original isn't pointed at the bottom. :-/ But that's nothing that couldn't be changed. ^^

The nail polish is slightly transparent which creates a cat's eye effect due to the reflection of the metal beneath when light shines on it in certain angles. Unfortunately I didn't manage to take a photo of this effect yet. :(

Brooch

Scheme is mine!!! DON'T COPY IT!!! :P (just refer/link to this page, thanks)

Unfortunately you can't see here how this thing was actually made. Silly me forgot the camera at home. I enchased the hemisphere from a brass plate and soldered it onto a ring that I roughly cut out from another brass plate. After the necessary post-soldering processes I filed off the excess material and soldered in a little pipe as well as a sort of bezel to later fix the needle made from steel wire.

Of course I will update this pic in the upper left corner when I have the costume done. ^^;

Okay... probably not.

Belt

Acrylic glass, technique is the same as on the tiara, sits tight without glue, the inside is black nail polish

Finally! After more than a year I finally got to finish the dearie - and it still fits! :D The paint is the same as on the tiara. Here you can also see the shimmer I mentioned above. Originally I meant to make a box lock at the front but decided for an easier hinge lock at the back. Good call.

I'm well aware that the original design has those lines in the front element, but in my opinion that makes it look just too much like a Pokéball (although there's no white).
